Warranty – Street Furniture

Maintenance Guidelines

All Street Furniture NZ products need to be maintained on a periodic basis. Airborne
contaminants, including salt deposits, industrial pollution that settle on surfaces can
attack and affect the finish. Regular maintenance ensures longevity and appearance.
Frequency depends on environmental exposure.

Timber Maintenance

Timber is a natural and durable product, which can expand and contract depending on
atmospheric and moisture conditions. Industry best practice, involves regular coating with
hi-quality timber protection oils (refer to oil protection manufacturers instructions).
• Clean with fresh water and soft cloth. DO NOT WATER BLAST timber surfaces
• Light sanding removes graffiti or roughness
• Reapply stain/oil or protective coatings as needed
• Temporary leaching from hardwoods may occur; clean with approved products.

Hardwood Leaching & Sporing

Hardwood timbers can be prone to some leaching and mould sporing when installed
outside.
• Leaching/Sporing varies by timber type and duration – depending on weather conditions
• Leaching residue may stain concrete or paved surfaces, and will fade over time
• Accelerate removal of leaching/sporing by applying a non-abrasive outdoor cleaner,
avoid applying any abrasives and strong solvents, follow appropriate PPE procedures

Powder Coated & Epoxy Surfaces

• First clean: wait 1 month post-delivery
• Use warm water (~40°C) and mild pH-neutral detergent, rinse thoroughly
• Avoid abrasives and strong solvents
• Remove bird droppings promptly
• For graffiti: use methylated spirits briefly, rinse thoroughly

Corten Steel (Coated)

• Corten steel may react with tannins from timber, producing a black ‘Iron Tannate’ stain
which may stain concrete/paved surfaces. Staining residue should dissipate over time.
Stubborn residue may need application of cleaning products (30 seconds, diluted ‘Spirit
of Salts’) – appropriate PPE procedures should be followed
•Reapply protective coatings to steel work periodically as needed.

Galvanised Mild Steel

• Clean with fresh water and soft cloth
• Use soft brush for grime; avoid abrasive tools

Stainless Steel (Unfinished)

• Clean with mild detergent and water
• Use soft brush for bead-blasted finishes
• Polish mirror finishes if required
• Treat iron contamination and tea staining with appropriate cleansers.

Aluminium (Unfinished)

• Clean with mild detergent and water – ensure detergent is applicable to aluminium,
paying particular attention to areas not exposed to ‘rain wash’, ensure areas washed
• Buff with non-abrasive cleaner if needed.

Hardware Maintenance

• Regularly inspect and tighten bolts, screws, and fixings.
